She said there is enough supply of TB medicines thus she does not need yet our second financial assistance. Instead she mentioned about the dire need of B6 supplement. She said B6 is good for pregnant women & people suffering from TB as well. There is no supply of B6 from the government. She added Vitamin C & Folic Acid are beneficial to these patients.

Automotive Electronic Technician

An auto electronic technician in Mendez, Tagaytay, has a living partner and 1 year old daughter. On electronic matters he often repairs the Mercedez Benz of AWH which runs on used cooking oil.

One day he told that his baby girl underwent heart surgery through catheter which costed him almost a million pesos. The girl is all right now but he had to sell his shop. He now does repair jobs at his rent house.

He is originally from Iloilo, Aklan and honest person. We wanted to assist his livelihood. He had several multimeters so we decided to try finding an automotive code reader/scanner. It usually is expensive and initially we thought about buying a second hand unit in Japan. However, we found a very inexpensive one from China in the Philippines. Initially, we were skeptical if it really works but decided to give it a try as it was in very affordable range.

On May 27, 2016, the code reader was given to him. He tested on some cars and confirmed it works although he has to get himself familiarized with it. It does not work on all the cars but he said it would be useful.

Helping A Livelihood

We heard that a sewer in our barangay Sicat, who is a sister in law of our domestic worker, lost her sewing machine and had become out of job for a year. Her sawing machine was rental and the owner took it back from her.

We sought for a good working second hand sawing machine and bought one for her. Since it was not informed to her, she was surprised when the sawing machine was given to her. She could not believe that she could have it with no payment attached. We explained that it is better to give a fishing rod than giving fish.

Since the sawing machine is from Japan, a voltage transformer was also included in the donation.

We temporarily set it up in her small table and tested the machine.

April 2016 LCPC Meeting at Luksuhin Barangay Hall

On April 18, 2016, the members of LCPC (Local Council for Protection of Children) along with barangay Luksuhin captain Cynthia and the councilors held a monthly meeting at the barangay hall of barangay Luksuhin, Alfonso, Cavite.

Topics included analysis of children’s (0-17 years old) statistics collected in 2015 and the method of survey on the same statistics this year in barangay Luksuhin.

Dra. Manzo, the municipal health director, stated that DOH (the Department of Health)  will begin distributing sub-dermal contraceptive implants if the Supreme Court removes the temporary restraining order, which may happen in August.
If the temporary restraining order is removed, all the women in this country will be benefited by receiving free birth control implants which is said to be effective for two years or more at each barangay/municipal health center.

Background:
The Supreme Court in July 2015 issued a temporary restraining order prohibiting the DOH from “procuring, selling, distributing, dispensing or administering, advertising, and promoting” contraceptive implants after Alliance of the Family Foundation Philippines Inc. (ALFI) appealed to ban the product for its alleged “abortifacient” side effects.

More than P860 million earmarked for the procurement of contraceptive implants was cut from the 2016 General Appropriations Act (GAA).

PC Donation to Barangay Sicat

On April 4, 2016, AWH donated desktop computer set that included 15″ LCD Monitor, a keyboard and a mouse to barangay Sicat hall. Their old computer had been repetitively repaired but became no longer repairable. Barangay councilors received the donation at the site and appreciated the gift and free installation by AWH staff.
The area is highly humid and AWH advised them to use it frequently so that the moisture is repelled by its operation heat and thus prevent damages.
