On November 29, 2017, being a member of LCPC (Local Council for Protection of Children) in Alfonso, Cavite, AWH staff attended Children’s Month Celebration at the Alfonso town plaza. The theme of the event was “Bata:” Iligtas sa Droga!” (Save our Children from Illegal Drugs). The event was attended by 600 selected indigent elementary school children from Grade 1 to 4. They received a hygiene kit containing toothbrush, toothpaste, rubbing alcohol, antiseptic cologne, cotton ear bud, 2 pieces of soaps and towel. Their teachers will teach them how to use the items properly to maintain basic hygiene. On November 8, 2017, AWH general manager Raymund Balicha, who has been newly designated as one of the Expanded Local Health Board (LHB), attended a Training Workshop on Municipal Health System Strengthening Program (MHSSP) at Verdiview in Luksuhin Ilaya, Alfonso, Cavite. LHB largely consists of the members of Local Council for Protection of Children. The seminar aims to improve the health system in Alfonso. Mayor Varias spoke in the workshop that there is a need to improve many health issues & wants to advocate health education & discipline.
Gina of DSWD (Department of Social Welfare Development) Alfonso presided over the Local Council for Protection of Children (LCPC) meeting on January 30, 2017 at the Brgy. Hall of Poblacion II in Alfonso. Gina recapped LCPC activities in 2016. She enumerated the rights of a child and plans to do related activities. She also relayed about children who got into conflict with the law and about charitable institutions who shelters these children. On March 28, 2016, a LCPC (Local Council for Protection of Children) meeting was held at the barangay hall of Sicat, Alfonso, Cavite. (A part of the construction cost and materials of the barangay hall were contributed by AWH.) Since LCPC’s aims include protection of women and children, AWH as a member of LCPC made an announcement that FriendlyCare now provides free hormonal implant as a contraceptive, instead of bilateral tubal ligation (BTL). FriendlyCare has been funded by UN Population Fund and previously provided free BTL. However, since UN replaced BTL method with hormonal implant, FriendlyCare follows the direction. On January 11, 2016, LCPC (Local Council for Protection of Children) Alfonso used AWH function room for their first meeting in 2016 as AWH has committed to voluntarily provide its venue at no cost for local government. The budgeting plan for 2016 and its each prospective projects were discussed including TB, teen pregnancy, domestic violence, etc.
On August 14, 2015, Dr. Manzo invited LCPC Members to participate in the “Maternal And Child Health Seminar” and “Anti-Violence Against Women And Children Forum” conducted by the Office of Senator Pia Cayetano (author of the RH bill) held at the conference hall of Municipal Building. The speaker was Dr. Vivian Eustasio from Senator Pia’s office. It was attended by representatives of health workers of 32 barangays in Alfonso. The said seminar/forum is conducted in Cavite & Metro Manila areas. Some relevant issues on Family Planning was discussed in conjunction with the health of mother and child.
